(Part eight in our series) POSSESSING GOD AS YOUR GREATEST INHERITANCE:
YOU MUST GROW...
"What I am saying is that as long as the heir is a child, he is not different from a slave,
although he owns the whole estate.
He is subject to guardians and trustees until the time set by his father.
So also, when we were children, we were in slavery under the basic principles of the world ...formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods." (Galatians 4:1--3,8 NIV)
As long as you remain a babe, though all the whole estate belongs to you by inheritance, in actual sense, you are not different from slaves. A baby can not actually know the difference in this matter of our glorious inheritance. It may shock you to discover that the devils and his demons will lord it over you, as long as you remain a baby. Most of the problems I see many Christians grapple with in our churches today; what several men and women are "falling under anointing for"; and the cheap merchandise men make out of the gospel today; is a manifestation of this baby hood in several of God's people.
Most demon cases, recurrent demonic attacks ( real as they seem) are simply because you have refused to grow. You are being handled as a slave, though you are the Lord of all.
"During our minority (childishness) we were slaves to the elemental spirits of the universe..." (NEB Vs 3)
' Let my people grow' is the other cry we must raise these days. Growth brings enforcement of your right. You are no longer to be tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine. A child keeps changing his mind about what he believes and what he holds dear to heart once he sees something new and flashy.
Beloved, if you stagnate in your spiritual development, you may only know crumbs. There will then be no difference between you and dogs outside. This inheritance is yours. God says, "I will be a father unto you." God means everything he says. He knows the full implication of this and He is eager to bring it to pass and into effect, even in your own experience. But you must grow. Yet there is a pattern-Son, who has lived as to win God's approval in everything, whom God has lifted as the approved standard of all who will become joint heirs with Him.
To fully exercise the right of a son, you need to walk as the Son walked. It is in love that God the father has given Jesus to us to become our pattern of growth. He is the measure of our development.
" The father loveth the Son and hath given all things into His hand..." ( John 3:35).
The father loves the Son... He is completely satisfied with Him, so, He hath given all things and entrusted all things unto His hands. When He sees the same quality that He saw in His Son Jesus, in us, He will also begin to entrust His things unto us. Hence, God ( in order to bring us into the inheritance), planned and determined that we might become conformed to the image of His Son...
" And if children, then heirs- heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ- if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together...
For whom he did fore-know he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son, that he might be the first born among many brethren... " (Romans 8:17, 29)
Looking closely at the verse 17, we discover some silent conditions attached to our entering into heirship. Jesus Himself had to meet this conditions, for God to commit all things into His hands...
"....if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together."
As we explore the scriptures, we discover that Jesus grew to attain the place He is now... It was not automatic for Him. He pleased and satisfied God, so in response God, His father, honoured Him and agreed that in Him should all fullness dwell.
" But unto the Son, he said thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever, a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore, God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows " (Hebrews 1:8--9)
Note the 'therefore' in that scripture. There was a ' therefore' - a reason for God to anoint Jesus with oil of gladness above all His fellows... That 'therefore' was because Jesus did something deliberate to commend Himself to God... He loved righteousness and hated iniquity. He resisted sin unto the shedding of blood. He rather suffered than disobey God... When God saw that, there was a compelling reason for Him to release the anointing without measure upon him. At His baptism by river Jordan... Jesus " suffer it to be so now" for thus it becometh us ( it is necessary for us) to fulfil all righteousness... " There was a righteousness he sought diligently to fulfil. He did not claim the heirship just because He was a Son; but proved a point against all gain- sayers. So God did not anoint Him above all His fellows, as an act of favouritism. For you also to fully enjoy the rights and privileges of the Son, without raising any conflict of principle for God, who is known to be righteous and to uphold righteousness, you need to grow into the same likeness as Jesus, the first begotten Son. ( to be continued)
I know you are blessed again today?
I pray for you: God will help you marvellously this coming week, receive grace to sit at the LORD'S feet to grow into your inheritance, in Jesus most precious name.
